If you haven’t heard of the Glass Skin trend by now, then you might be living under a rock. Glass skin is a clear, dewy, luminous and transparent skin popularised by Koreans as a result of doing a specific daily regimen known as K-beauty skincare.
Who doesn’t want to have crystal-clear glowing skin?
Korean Skincare Routine
Ranging from 7-12 steps, every step is crucial and must be followed religiously to achieve glass skin. Here is the most common routine:
Step 1: Balm or oil cleanser – Use balm or oil cleanser to get rid of dirt and makeup.
Step 2: Water-based cleanser – Use a water-based cleanser to remove any remaining dirt or product on your face. There are different types of water-based cleansers, such as foam, gel, milk, etc.
Step 3: Exfoliator – It is very important to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week in order to remove dead skin cells. You can choose between physical or chemical exfoliators depending on what type of skin you have.
Step 4: Toner – Another essential step is to use a toner to help the skin absorb all the hydration from moisturisers. A great alternative to a toner is a face mist.
Step 5: Essence – Use skin essences to help soak and prep the skin for another product.
Step 6: Serum – Applying a serum is the most personal thing you can do for your skin. Depending on your needs, there are many types of serums available in the market to help treat your skin, such as hyaluronic acid, fatty acids, peptides, minerals and vitamin C.
Step 7: Sheet Mask – Sheet masks are usually associated with K-beauty, especially if you watch K-dramas. Its purpose is to moisturise the deepest layers of your skin.
Step 8: Eye Cream – This is a step that is important for all ages, as moisturising around the eyes helps take care of dryness and fine wrinkles.
Step 9: Moisturiser – Moisturising helps seal all the products together. It comes in liquid, gel or cream.
Step 10: Sunscreen in the morning / Thick moisturiser before bed – Sunscreen helps protect the skin from the sun’s UV rays that damages the skin. And applying a thicker moisturiser before bed creates softer, hydrated and better-looking skin the next day.
